sharp_as_knives | Hannibal's house (and okay, maybe JUST A LITTLE Jono's), New Year's Eve

Hannibal's impulse was to have a huge party and plan an entire menu and drinks menu for it; any excuse. But after spending their vacation in the quiet (if cold) arctic circle, then continuing to relax as much as possible, Hannibal was disinclined to undo all of that work by insisting on a crowd for New Year's Eve.

So, a quiet evening in, with the cats and each other and a glass of very good champagne.

As the clock ticked closer to midnight, Hannibal stretched out on the couch and smiled at Jono. "Well?"

Jono would be all for making the ice hotel a regular thing.

Bob poked his head in, squinted at them, and sighed in irritation. "Honestly, I would've thought you were doing something more interesting. It's New Year's Eve! Time for a party! Drinks! Sex!"

You were both proving highly disappointing.

You know, drunken couples in corners, ringing in the new year in proper tradition...but if you're feeling frisky, by all means, don't let me stop you."

"Oo, when's that, then?" Bob asked, perking up. "What's the point of a quiet New Year and a party later? I mean, not that I'm complaining, exactly, as long as there's some party..."

But again with things like dates and actually announcing the engagement and all that. One thing at a time, Jono.

"Engagement of wh- wait," Bob said, "your engagement? The two of you are engaged?" He blinked. "To be married?"

Really, if Jono had his way, everyone was going to find out about his engagement in the most casual way possible. A little something like this.

Jono probably wasn't going to continue to have his way for long, was he?

"Well, I don't know, let me see - just about anybody?" Bob looked pained. "You could try a woman for a start. They're all soft in all the right places, with wonderful curves...and no, erm." He gave Hannibal a significant look and just got a smirk in return.

Jono was going to just smack his forehead with one hand, if it was all the same to Bob.

//I've given women a try too, mate. And I like them, their curves are lovely and I appreciate a nice pair of breasts as much as the next person, but that's not really what we're together for.//

Because neither of them had curves or breasts, obviously.

//Hell, I haven't really thought about the fact that we're both men in ages. Unless somebody else is bringing it to our attention, we're just... us. Seems to be working out well enough thus far.//

It didn't hurt, really, that sex, while enjoyable, was really sort of an afterthought in their relationship. Had been in most of Jono's relationships, actually. So it was less about the curves and the, 'erm...'

Bob looked pained. "Apart from that! Marriage is so...permanent." Honestly, Jono knew about Hannibal's habits, and still wanted to marry him?

Jono knew, yes. And Jono had made his opinion on the whole matter known. And, to the full extent of Jono's knowledge, Hannibal had respected that opinion. People still died. They just... deserved it more.

Or something.

//Nothing is permanent,// Jono replied, rolling his eyes. //Marriage is lasting, perhaps, but it only keeps until death do us part.//

And Jono... Jono seemed to have a funny way of not dying. He had a funny way of not dying a lot.

//Besides, nobody's asking you to marry him.// A beat. //Actually, I'd take exception to that.//
